
Athletes of the Week - Molly Montgomery and Austin Schwartz
Molly has played her best basketball of the season recently with double-digit games in the last five contests. She was impressive in the Boyne game, knocking down six three-point shots.
Austin Schwartz put together two of his best games of the season last week during victories over Lake City and Kingsley. Austin averaged 10.5 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3.5 deflections, and 1 block per game last week. He had to battle defensively against some big players for both teams and he rose to the occasion.



Five Grayling High School wrestlers qualified for the individual state finals over the weekend. During individual regionals on Saturday (at Hart High School) Alex Moore, Owen Lewicki, and Danny Bonamie all placed 3rd. Ryan Stade placed 4th. On Sunday (at Cadillac High School) Lana Sheehan placed 4th at individual regionals (girls). All five wrestlers will compete in the state finals at Ford Field on February 28 and March 1.


Athletes of the Week - Ahryn LaVigne and Eli Goscicki
Ahryn continues to set personal best bowling scores. Her new season high score of 148 raised her average to 122. She is a perfect example of a Viking with her work ethic, sportsmanship, and all-around great teammate.
Eli Goscicki is a leader on the basketball court. He always pushes the pace in practice. He has been our leading scorer since game one and his passion for basketball shows in practice, open gyms, and on game day. Most importantly, he keeps developing as a basketball player. He has learned our system well and has found ways to keep his teammates involved. He is our leader and battles like a true Viking.



Nine Grayling High School wrestlers qualified for individual regionals by placing in the top four during individual districts over the weekend.
On Saturday, Owen Lewicki (120) and Jordan Peters (157) took first place during individual districts (held in Grayling). Alex Moore (106), Max Huspen (138), and Danny Bonamie (215) all took second place at districts. Ryan Stade (165) and Zeke Wright (285) took third place. Regionals will be held on Saturday, February 15, at Hart High School.
On Sunday, Lana Sheehan (110) and Molly Wright (120) each took third place during individual districts (held in Gaylord).
Individual regionals for the girls will be held on Sunday, February 16, at Cadillac High School. .

Junior Alex Moore won his 100th career high school wrestling match during team districts at Ogemaw Heights on Thursday, February 7.


Athletes of the Week - Kyleigh Ross and Gavin Cvitkovich
Kyleigh Ross is making a name for herself in powerlifting. As a sophomore, she is uplifting the majority of seniors. Kyleigh is currently ranked 5th in the state and plans to make all-state this year. She has made powerlifting a priority and it shows.
Gavin Cvitkovich is a powerlifting asset. He is currently ranked 5th in the state and is set up to make all-state for the second year in a row. Gavin is a leader on the team. His dedication and enthusiasm is contagious and his excitement for powerlifting is amazing..


Grayling High School senior Jessica Campbell signed a letter of intent today during Viking Time to play softball for Brunswick Community College next year.

Tristan Demlow, a senior at Grayling High School, has been named a Semifinalist in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program, earning the chance to advance further in the competition. Tristan qualified for the program by taking the 2023 PSAT/NMSQT during his junior year. As a Semifinalist, Tristan is among the highest-scoring students in each state. These Semifinalists will compete for approximately 6,870 National Merit Scholarships, totaling nearly $26 million, to be awarded in the spring. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation aims to recognize outstanding academic talent and promote scholastic achievement.

Congratulations to Teresa Bonamie, recently retired Counseling Office Secretary from GHS, on being one of this year's recipients of the Phyllis Ziebell Kesseler Outstanding Educator Award from CASD.








Brooklynn Laskowski and Aryanna Florschuetz received Lake Michigan Conference honorable mention at #3 doubles. The pair defeated Elk Rapids on their way to the final against TCSF.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Nico Triebold and Cole Smith (varsity track)
Nico runs the second hardest race, the 800 meter. She has the best time as a freshman in school history with a time of 2:29.24, was all-region, all-conference honorable mention in the 800, and ends the season as the 7th ranked freshman in the state at D3.
Cole runs the grueling 400 meter run which is really a sprint. He has the second-best time as a freshman in school history with a 53.80, was all-region in the 400, and ends the season as the 7th ranked freshman in the state at D3.

The track team competed in the Gaylord Meet of Champs. This meet is invite-only and participants must have a qualifying time, height, or distance. Rylan Finstrom took first in shot and disc and tied the meet record in disc with a throw of 133’9”. Leo Bertoncello took first in the long jump and 3rd in the 100 meter. Kale Black and Nico Triebold each took 3rd in the 800 meter. The girls 4x400 team of Maya Duncombe, Molly Wright, Ainsley Gallagher and Nico Triebold took 2nd.

The golf team played the Quest yesterday and scored 402 to place 14th of 20 teams at regionals yesterday. Bryce Malcolm's 95 earned him 42nd place and Gage Modert took 57th with a 99.

The soccer team came up short in the tightly contested district semifinal last night, falling to Cheboygan 1-0. Emma Kuziel had 22 saves.

Varsity softball ended the regular season with a 20-11 record after a 9-0, 13-3 sweep of East Jordan Tuesday night. The team has sole possession of 2nd place in the LMC with a 9-3 conference record. Jessica Campbell pitched another near-perfect game last night, facing 19 batters in six innings and striking out 10. Campbell and Cali D'Amour were both 4 for 6 at the plate and Jillian Hartman went 4 for 7. The Vikings open district play at Kalkaska at noon on Saturday.

The soccer team won the first round of districts, beating Iron Mountain last Thursday 2-0. Edie Boik had one goal and an assist. Lilly Odden had one goal off of a Quincy Stirling assist. Emma Kuziel had five saves. Tonight we take on Cheboygan at Cheboygan in the district semi-final.

The track team competed at the LMC Championships on Wednesday. Congratulations to the following athletes for being all-conference. Rylan Finstrom is first-team all-conference in shot and discus, breaking her school record again in discus with a throw of 148’. Kaleb Hall is first-team all-conference in discus and second-team all-conference in shot. Drew Moore is first-team all-conference in the 3200 meter. Tristan Demlow earned an honorable mention all-conference in the 1600-meter run. Nico Triebold earned an honorable mention all-conference in the 800-meter run.

The golf team played the Nightmare Invitational on Wednesday and placed 13th out of 22 teams with a team score of 368. Bryce Malcolm and Gage Modert each shot a 91 and tied for 53rd place. With a 92, Gibsen Barnett took 61st. It was a crowded golf course with 130 total players - most of which were division 1 or division 2. The team will golf The Quest for Regionals on Tuesday.
