GES students recently participated in Kindness Week! Throughout the week, staff members handed out ‘Caught Being Kind’ tickets to students who demonstrated acts of kindness. Today, 20 students were randomly selected to receive prizes. We could not be more proud of our students for showing kindness to others, to themselves, and to their environment.

In STEM, we took inspiration from the Winter Olympics and tackled an exciting engineering challenge! Students were presented with a scenario: design and build a solution to help their athlete travel safely down a snowy slope. Using the engineering design process, they brainstormed, planned, and constructed prototypes such as skis, snowboards, and bobsleds. It is always inspiring to see their creativity, innovation, and perseverance in STEM.

Second-grade STEM students conducted a lab that focused on Earth’s changing landscape. For this activity, they completed a Skittles Lab, where they pretended to be scientists studying “Skittle rocks” in the Rainbow Skittle Rainforest. Their goal was to observe how varying amounts of rain would weather the colorful candy shell down to its white core, modeling the process of weathering in nature.

Ms. Keys' class had some fun with math gingerbread houses! Students had to count the number of each candy they used and add them all together for some fluency practice. They had so much fun!

Students, parents and staff participated in Walk and Roll this morning. It was a beautiful and snowy walk and a great way to kick off our day. Our next Walk and Roll day will be January 7th.
