Our physical and occupational therapists have decorated their classroom door in a countdown style leading up to the holidays. We can't wait to see what surprises are revealed!

Over the past two weeks, our fourth graders have been diving into Mechanical Energy, exploring both Potential Energy (stored energy) and Kinetic Energy (energy of motion). To apply what they’ve learned, students are working in teams to design and build their own roller coasters! Each roller coaster must clearly indicate where potential energy is stored and where it is converted into kinetic energy as the golf ball travels along the track. Students have been collaborating, testing, adjusting, and using real engineering practices to bring their designs to life.

We wish our LEGO Vikes teams the best as they compete today in Clare!

Mrs. Cobb's 1st-grade class partnered with their buddies in Mrs. Cobb's 4th-grade class to create a "Tree of Thankfulness" to decorate the cafeteria.

Mrs. Moffit's students explored expanded notation with base ten block structures. Way to make learning fun!

Mrs. Nicholas's 2nd-grade class showed their appreciation for our kitchen staff this week!

Our 3rd graders get to visit the Ziibiwing Center to learn about the history, culture, and contemporary society of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan and other Great Lakes Anishinabek. The field trips are grant-funded through the Crawford AuSable Excellence in Education Foundation.

Mrs. Mack's kindergarten class did a Mystery Science lesson on why birds lay eggs in the spring. Then they got to make their own bird nests. What fun they are having learning about the world around them!

Mrs. Heavner has introduced Computer Science into STEM through Code.org.
In first grade, they are focusing on drag and drop, the basics of programming. The drag-and-drop blocks represent real programming commands.
They also did some unplugged "happy maps." In this activity, students were introduced to an algorithm, which, in computer science, is a set of steps that solves a problem. They were able to do this by guiding a friendly orange cloud to a strawberry through a series of arrows. GES is excited to offer these opportunities to our students!
