Eighteen GHS Advanced Placement® Scholars Named

Fifteen graduates of Grayling High School and three current seniors have earned the designation of AP® Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement® Exams. Only 18 percent of the more than 2,000,000 high school students worldwide who took these exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar.

The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on the number of courses and exams taken.

Five GHS students qualified as AP Scholars, a designation given to those students who receive grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams:

Mollie Binert, daughter of Mark Binert-Armstrong and Andrea Binert, is currently a senior at GHS, planning on attending Central Michigan University next year.
Ashley Branch, daughter of Anne and Jeff Branch, attends Saginaw Valley State University, where she is studying to become an occupational therapist.
Jackie Bulmer, daughter of Jeanne and Jack Bulmer, is a student at Saginaw Valley State University where she is studying nursing.
Shae-Lin Kraycs, daughter of Shawn and Joanne Kraycs, attends Oakland University, pursuing a degree in elementary education.
Elijah Robbins, son of Richard Robbins and Christina Robbins, is studying to become a physician’s assistant or physical therapist at Grand Valley State University.

Five students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award, which is granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more AP Exams:

Alayna Cobb, daughter of Loren and Amy Cobb, is currently a senior at GHS. She plans on attending Spring Arbor University next year.
Brianna Gugin, daughter of April Gugin, attends Grand Valley State University, where she is majoring in education.
Brittany Nielson, daughter of Terry and Brenda Nielson, attends the University of Michigan where she is studying physical therapy.
Sarah Pavey, daughter of Carter and Michelle Pavey, is studying pre-medicine and psychology at Lake Superior State University.
Aaron Wojdan, son of Gary and Renee Wojdan, attends Saginaw Valley State University, pursuing a degree as a physician’s assistant.

Eight students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction designation, which is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams:

Charles Bennett, son of Sam and Gayenell Gentelia, is studying computer science at the University of Michigan.
Zachary Burger, son of Jennifer and Timothy Rombach and Dale Burger, attends Brown University, where he is studying molecular biology and pre-medicine.
Noah Dannenburg, son of Pam and Vince Saunders and Jay and Dawn Dannenberg, attends Lake Superior State University, pursuing a degree in political science/pre-law.
Easton Farrell, son of Brian and Judith Farrell, is currently a senior at GHS, applying to various colleges for next year.
Trent Hickman, son of Steve and Julie Hickman, is studying aerospace engineering at Kettering University.
Emily Jackson, daughter of Dr. Thad Jackson and Dr. Lisa (Harrington) Jackson, is studying molecular biology at Hope College.
Sally Metiva, daughter of Bob and Joni Metiva, attends the University of Michigan.
Erica Umlor, daughter of Deb Umlor, is a student at Michigan Technological University, studying engineering.

Grayling High School has offered AP classes since 1980. The first course offered was English Composition. Since that time, the program has expanded, and students are now able to take AP courses in biology, calculus (AB and BC), statistics, chemistry, English language and literature, psychology, Spanish, U.S. history, and European history. Students at GHS have also taken AP exams in French, German, human geography, physics, U.S. government and world history through independent study. The number of GHS students taking AP exams has steadily increased over the years, with 82 students taking a total of 137 exams this year. As well, test scores continue to be above the state and national averages.
