Dr. Cecilia M. (Canfield) O'Connor was nominated by John and Sue Canfield.

She earned an associate of applied science degree in nursing from Wayne County Community College, a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Phoenix, a master of science in nursing from the University of Detroit-Mercy and a doctor of nursing practice degree from the University of Michigan.

Dr. O'Connor has a nurse practitioner specialty license in Michigan and is a registered nurse in both Michigan and Nevada. She earned her nursing education certificate in 2008 and is also certified as an adult health clinical nurse specialist through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and she received a faculty nurse grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Since 1988, Dr. O'Connor has a been a nursing educator committed to helping shape the future of nursing education and helping her students achieve and learn lasting values. She strives to mentor them by being a positive role model and by encouraging their personal and professional growth while helping them attain their future nursing careers and life goals. And a registered nurse since 1994, Dr. O'Connor has clinical expertise in pediatrics and adult internal medicine.

She has worked as an adjunct educator for Henry Ford Community College and as a staff RN in the pediatric ICU at Children's Hospital of Michigan. Presently, she is a full-time professor at Eastern Michigan University as well as a nurse practitioner with the Family Health Clinic at Oakwood Southshore Hospital, where she strives to improve the health of local families and adults.
