William H. Weideman was nominated by Steve and Kathy (Flanigan) Schornack.
Bill is a 1972 Grayling High School graduate. While attending GHS, he lettered in basketball, football, golf and track, was a member of the National Honor Society and was selected to attend Rotary Leadership Camp. He graduated with honors from Central Michigan University (where he was a roommate of Jim Tobin), earning a bachelor of science degree in business administration and accounting.
After graduation, Mr. Weideman began a 36-year career with Dow Chemical Company, a $54 billion global specialty chemical, advanced materials, agro-sciences and plastics company based in Midland. He now is the company’s executive vice president and chief financial officer. Since 1976, he has held a variety of accounting and controller roles of increasing responsibility for different Dow businesses in four states – Michigan, South Carolina, Indiana and Texas. He has been controller for Texas operations and global business finance director for specialty chemicals, performance chemicals, basic chemicals and basic plastics. He was appointed vice president and corporate controller in May 2006 and interim chief financial officer in November 2009. He was named to his current position in March 2010.
Mr. Weideman also is on the boards of several other companies: Sadara Chemical Company, Diamond Capital Management Incorporated, Dorinco Reinsurance Company, Dow Financial Holdings Incorporated and Liana Limited. He serves as a director on the boards of Dow Corning Corporation, the Dow Chemical Employees Credit Union and Family and Children's Services of Midland. He is a director and finance committee member of the Mid Michigan Medical Center. He is also a member of Financial Executives International, the Central Michigan University Accounting Advisory Committee and the Central Michigan University Development Board.
He is the treasurer of the Midland Baseball Foundation, which established Dow Diamond and the Great Lakes Loons, a Class A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. This summer he will attend the Olympics in London as a representative of Dow Chemical Company, one of the Olympic sponsors.
Bill is married to Molly Flanigan, also a 1972 GHS graduate. They have three children – Michael, Susan and Christopher – and five grandchildren with two more on the way. The Weideman family spends time on Lake Margrethe during the summers. His siblings, Cindy (Weideman) Wakeley and Tom Weideman, also graduated from GHS.
