Who is my child’s Speech Pathologist?
My name is Tricia Coger. I have earned a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from Central Michigan University and a Michigan Professional Teaching Certificate. I hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech Language & Hearing Association. I have worked in Grayling Schools since 1990 in both preschool and the primary grades. Currently I am assigned to AuSable Primary School. I am married and have two children of my own.I believe that communicating with one another is the most important thing that we, as individuals do. Communicating well is essential to our personal growth as well as to our educational success. I believe that language and speech should be learned in the most normal setting possible. This means during play, during meals, during regular school activities. It means in class, outside, and at home. I believe that parents are the best early teachers of language. The best ways to encourage language at home are1) conversation – talk about everything 2) reading out loud together, and 3) experience – go to the library, museums, the fair, a farm, the city. Talk about all of it.
Who is the Speech/Language Parapro?
Cheryl Boylan has worked in the speech program for 3 years. She is directly supervised and has been trained by me. Cheryl works with children who already know how to produce a sound or sentence pattern but need to practice frequently to make it a habit. Most students will work with Cheryl at some time during their speech programs.
