Is My Child Ready For Preschool?

YES!  We take children at their own individual level and move them forward.
This looks different for each child.  
We do ask that your child is potty trained.

 

If we suspect your child is struggling with what we do in the classroom, we will talk with you about it. 
We also have a child assistance team that can observe your child and gives suggestions on how to better assist your child both at home and school.  Our goal is to help your child be as successful as they can be.   
 

How you as a parent or caregiver can help
  • Read to your child everyday
  • Have conversations with your child about their day. What did they notice or see?  How did they feel?  What was the order of their day?
  • Let them help around the house (they will learn about the world around them, how things works and life skills)
  • Play games and sing songs.
  • Go for walks and exercise daily
  • Count objects, look for patterns and shapes.
  • Let them explore and use scissors, markers, pens and pencils

Is Kindergarten Ready For My Child?

We believe that our Kindergarten classrooms at AuSable Primary are ready for your child. They offer a variety of learning opportunities and levels.  Kindergarten teachers are skilled at meeting the student’s individual needs.  They will be teaching students who haven’t had any preschool experience to students who have had two years of preschool experience. Our philosophy is that we take all students at their own individual level and move them forward.
 
Please attend “New Kindergartener Night” which is scheduled for the last Tuesday of April each year. This is also listed on the school calendar.  You will receive an information packet in the mail containing specific skills your child can work on at home with you.
 
You know your child best.  Our recommendation is that if you have concerns or reservations about your child starting Kindergarten to contact our principal Mrs. Mick at 344-3654 to discuss options available to your child.
