Albion College Operation Bentley is a one-week program for high school sophomores and juniors interested in government and political issues. It runs May 15-21 at Albion College. Selection is based on academic record, involvement in high school and community activities and teacher recommendation. There is no cost to the participant. February 28
American Legion The Michigan Youth Career Law Enforcement Program will be held in Lansing from July 23-28. It is open to 16- to 18-year-old juniors and seniors with police career interests. The cost is $350 and can be paid by a sponsor if a student chooses to find one. Anyone can sponsor a student. May 26
American Legion Boys' State Program at Michigan State University, June 17-23, is open to juniors. There is no cost to the participant.   
American Legion Auxiliary Girls' State Program at Michigan State University, June 17-23, is open to juniors. Check it out at www.michalaux.org There is no cost to the participant. April 1
Central Michigan University The Biological Station on Beaver Island offers classes in biology and art May 9-13, May 16-June 3, June 27-July 15, July 8-19 or July 17-August 4. Check on-line at www.cst.cmich.edu/centers/cmubs March 15 for the first session; May 15 for later sessions.

Georgetown University Offering various summer programs for high school juniors. Programs run June 4-July 8 or July 9-Aug. 12. Lawrence Technological University Forensic Summer Science Institute.  June 25--July 3.  For H.S. Sophomores and Juniors.  Designed for serious biology, chemistry and physics high school students.  No housing provided on-campus. $125.00 May 31
Lions of Michigan Youth Exchange program offers summer opportunities for youth to travel.  Must be in good health, mentally and physically.  Knowledge of foreign languages is not mandatory except for France.  Exchanges approx. 3-6 weeks long. Presidential Classroom Various programs, all taking place in Washington, D.C. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and a good resume of activities. United States Senate Youth Program Two students per state will spend February 26-March 5 in Washington, D.C., plus receive a $5,000 scholarship. There is no cost to the selected students.

Western Michigan University Aviation flight academy offers actual flight instruction, aviation careers, and tours of aviation-related facilities.
