Grayling Baseball
Outlook for 2012

This year defense and speed will be our strengths. We return a solid number one pitcher and will be looking for a game two starter. We are very deep with the number of people who can throw but will need to develop a pitcher's mentality with our younger players. Our infield will be very strong defensively, and one of the outfield spots is strong.  

Again, the Vikings should make a run at a league title. The LMC is going to be very tough again, but many teams lost some very good players. In order for us to compete, we will need some of our younger players to step up into starter roles and compete at a high level.

With the addition of new coaches and the amount of potential the underclassmen have, this could be a season to remember.

Brett Krabill
Head Coach
Head Coach Brett Krabill is returning for his second year as varsity coach. Last year, the varsity team compiled a record of 17-8, finishing in the top three in the LMC. Coach Krabill's focus for 2012 will be on pitchers, base running and knowledge of the game.

Coach Krabill played high school baseball at Shepherd and was an assistant coach at Vestaburg before coming to Grayling. He is a sixth grade language arts and  math instructor at Grayling Middle School.

junior varsity Coach
Coach Dan Mygrants is returning to the JV squad for the 2012 season. Last year, the team went 13-4 and made huge improvements.

Coach Mygrants is the owner of NorthStar Autowash and a proud new dad!

Coach Pratt played baseball at Oliver College and will focus on hitting and outfield.

Coach Chase Barnett, the liaison officer for GHS, will be joining the baseball coaching staff in 2012. He is excited to be helping out and will assist with infield as well as help bring guests to practice to add a new dimension.

~ They Will Always Be Remembered ~
A Tribute to Ryan Davis & Josh Mastej

In the fall of 2006, the Grayling baseball program lost two of its past outstanding players in a tragic car accident. Ryan Davis ('05) and Josh Mastej ('06) were not just good athletes but quality young men. They were always willing to go out of their way to help teammates, coaches and anyone else for that matter. They truly were liked by all who met them. As players, they were fierce competitors on the field; they would do whatever was asked of them for the team. They were the ultimate team players. So that future baseball players and coaches remember these players, their names and numbers will appear in the home dugout at the Grayling High School baseball field.

The home dugout  on the GHS baseball field has been painted with Josh Mastej's and Ryan Davis' jersey numbers and names.
